How I got started

Some of my fondest and most vivid childhood memories are of crafting with my mom. She was always, and still is, known as the craft guru and was a go-to resource for many people who wanted something handmade or simply made to their own tastes. She often will find random items and say “I wonder what I can do with this!” and then completely transform it into something beautiful. She is well-versed in various mediums and techniques, and she began to expose me to them from a very young age. She continuously encouraged me to keep practicing new skills, even when I didn’t think I would ever be good at them. By doing this, she helped me sharpen my creativity and problem-solving skills (which are skills that I now proudly consider some of my greatest strengths). From rubber stamping, clay projects, and friendship bracelet-making, to scrapbooking, cross-stitching, and everything in between, my mom and I spent many hours at the kitchen table just simply making things together.

As I got older, my mom started asking for my opinions and suggestions on her various craft projects, and that’s when I knew she thought I was talented in my own right. To this day, I cannot sew a single stitch (by hand or with a machine) or make anything even remotely resembling a bow like my mom can do with ease, but I have developed my own set of skills in the crafting world that I continue to hone over the years. I make things because I truly love the process from start to finish, and it all started because my mom chose to share her hobby with me. It was with her encouragement, as well as the encouragement from many of the people I love, that I chose to start this small-business adventure. While Nekrafts is my small business, it is also something of a loveletter filled with gratitude to my momma.

So to anyone who has stumbled across my little corner of the internet here, I hope you enjoy my crafted items as much as I enjoy making them :)

Love,
Ashley
